Topic: He Gives Good Gifts!
Text: Matthew 7:9
“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone?” Amen
Have you seen how responsible fathers and mothers handle all their children? It’s beautiful! They do almost everything for them so the children do not suffer or lack unnecessarily.
If you observe carefully however, you will notice that these parents do not always give their wards what they crave or cry so loud for. Rather, they give them the best. For instance, they would encourage the child to eat healthier foods instead of the bars of candy he/she craves for. Obviously these children may not appreciate the intervention of a healthy food over candy, but the parents know better and will only choose that for their wards. Eventually, when these children are matured, they will greatly appreciate it.
One day Jesus was to preach a sermon to demonstrate how willing God is to answer us if we ask; not just granting whatever we think we want, but giving the best there can ever be because of His great love for us. He said “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?” (Mat 7: 7, 9).
Well, the above only demonstrates that we are not helpless at all. We have a Father who is more than willing to give if we ask, to open if we knock, and make us find if we seek. There is no use slacking therefore; get asking, seeking and knocking. For He who is the answer of the world, also says to you this morning, “ask me for anything”.
He further affirms His willingness to help by saying “If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him!”(Mat 7: 11). Begin to pray therefore! Petition God concerning your life, career, family, ministry, etc and you will see that there is a Good God Who Is More Than Willing To Give Good Gifts To All Who Will Ask.
He is not a man that He should lie, nor the son of man that He should change His mind. Whatever you find in His Word concerning you is exactly what He will do for you. Receive better then, than all you ask; “For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened” (Mat 7: 8). That is how God orders it to be; exactly what should happen for you in Jesus name!
