Topic: We Thirst For You!
Text: Ps 63: 1- 3a
1 O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. 2 So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory. 3 Because your steadfast love is better than life. Amen
One day Jesus met a Samaritan woman at a well and said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” But she replied Him saying, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans).
Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked Him and He would have given you living water.” At this, the woman said, “Sir, you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water?
Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” Then the woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water. (John 4: 7- 11, 13- 15).
Beloved, this Samaritan woman, although initially defensive, literally put all her arsenals down and started begging for this special water that Jesus was talking about. Her life had been a total mess and she could use the touch of heaven that satisfies the soul.
Guess what, many of us are just like the Samaritan at the well. We are looking for that water that refreshes the soul for life. We are tired of drinking from the well that does not satisfy. In a land that is barren and dry; a land where we toil day and night to yield just a few; only the refreshment from heaven can satisfy.
We need a refreshment within; one that flows from the Spirit of God to bring peace within even when there is chaos without; joy within even when there’s sorrow around; to bring righteousness in the face of temptation and patience in the time of tribulation.
If you equally have this similar desire, then come join this happy trail. We are on our way to church. To seek the face of our God for our land. To look upon Him in the santuary, beholding His power and glory to see if He will pour out on us the latter rain.
Begin to pray now. Worship with the hymn “As the deer panteth for the waters so my soul longeth after thee”. Then ask that God regenerates our spirits with the water that becomes in us the spring of living water welling up to eternity. It is nothing other than the very presence of God in us, both to will and to do according to His good pleasure (Phil 2: 13).
This world and all its glamour never satisfy, only the presence of God in man brings pure fulfilment. See you at church therefore, with streams of living waters bubbling right within your spirit. You will never thirst again; EXCEPT FOR GOD!
