Topic: Ye Have Done It Unto Me!
Text: Matthew 25:40
And the King shall answer and say unto them, ‘Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.’ Amen
Many of us are very mindful of how we look because we believe that, as they say, ‘first impressions are always important’. What we ought to realize, however, is that ‘first perceptions are also equally important’.
Often, our regard for people is based on our first perceptions about them as a result of their first impressions on us. This even plays a major role in how we treat them, sometimes even years after the very first impression. But Jesus showed us a more excellent way. As far as He is concerned, people are not just what they look; THEY ARE REPRESENTATIVES OF GOD OUR FATHER.
In Matthew chapter 25, He uses a parable to paint a vivid picture of the judgment. When the King in the story commended those on His right hand for the good works they had done unto Him, they were astonished and asked; ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
To this the King replied, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me’ (verses 37-40). How wonderful!
Beloved, whatever you do for the ‘least’ of persons around is done unto God Almighty. These are people who may not afford to return the favour done them. They may not look promising enough to be of any help to you in future, but like the Apostle Paul says, henceforth stop evaluating others from a human point of view (2 Corin. 5:16). See every need around you as a glorious opportunity to do something unto God, not man.
Begin to pray that the Spirit of God will touch your heart and open your eyes to see people as He sees them, and to identify the smallest ways to meet needs around you as unto God. Pray also that you will receive strength to never get weary of doing good. Then at the end, He’ll say unto you, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.’ (Matthew 25:34).
May this nugget guide you throughout this new week and beyond. Especially regarding how you handle and treat people; knowing that as you do to them, anything (good or bad), you are doing unto God and He will reward you accordingly.
