Topic: All These For The One Your Heart Loves?
Text: Song Of Songs 3: 1- 4
1 All night long on my bed I looked for the one my heart loves; I looked for him but did not find him. 2 I will get up now and go about the city, through its streets and squares; I will search for the one my heart loves. So I looked for him but did not find him.
3 The watchmen found me as they made their rounds in the city. “Have you seen the one my heart loves?” 4 Scarcely had I passed them when I found the one my heart loves. I held him and would not let him go till I had brought him to my mother’s house, to the room of the one who conceived me. Amen
Beloved, most of us have been in love before and so can identify with the passage above very well. It is just a reflection of all that goes on within you regarding the one your heart loves, right?
All the sleepless nights just thinking about him/ her. Missing them already even when it has not been an hour you spoke with each other. The restlessness of not knowing where they are and what they may be doing at a particular time. The many calls to all their numbers and relatives inquiring where they are and refusing to let go once you lay your grips on them is all part of what makes love special and interesting.
How beautiful will this be then, beloved, if we demonstrated such actions towards the God we claim to love more? After all, do we not profess that our love for Him is greater than what we feel for and about anyone else?
King David so loved the Lord that he said “on my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night” (Ps 63: 6). Beloved, how many of us spend times alone in bed just thinking about how wonderful and beautiful our God is? How many of us long for His presence as the deer pants for water? How many of us refuse to let Him go once grace allows us access to Him?
Think carefully about this because as it stands now, it looks like your professed love for God is only by way of lip service. You never go an extra mile for His name sake. You have no time to spend with Him during the day and by night, as you lay in bed, He remains the last thought on your mind unless you are in some kind of trouble.
Meanwhile, His love for you is genuine and knows no bounds. He desires to spend more time with you and lavish you with all the love, care, pampering and kindness that comes with His presence. If only you could show the world how much you love Him without feeling intimidated and ashamed.
You do this for your lover all the time, why not to God? Begin to pray now. Ask for grace to love God more than all. And remember “We love because He first loved us” (1 John 4: 19).
When you will have time to think about how wonderful your sweet lover is, think about Jesus too…. HE IS ALSO SWEET; MAYBE EVEN SWEETER THAN HONEY AND THE HONEYCOMB.
