Topic: To This You Were Called!
Text: 1 Peter 3: 8- 9
8 Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. 9 Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. Amen
Beloved, look around and see how different we are from others. If not for the unfortunate alignment with worldliness that we crave in recent times, Christians are supposed to be very different from all others.
Ours is not a religion. It is not even a “way of life” as many claim it is. Ours is Life (or The Life). The life we live is the life of Christ or the God-kind of life (Zoe); where we who were lost in sin and deserving death are called out of darkness into the marvelous light of God to walk as children of light.
The blood of Christ ushers us into a new covenant with God with the Holy Spirit as its SEAL. He also works in us both to will and do according to His good pleasure (Phil 2: 13).
The mind of Christ is made to dwell richly in us while the incorruptible seed of God’s righteousness is implanted. Before long, we notice that we are not our own, but the Lord’s. The old “us” dies to give way to the better life of Christ. Such is the life we are called to live. It is a higher calling.
Living the Word (Bible), is living like Jesus; He is the word of God. He also is THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE VERY LIFE we live both now and eternally.
This is why apostle Peter wrote to the churches and encouraged them to live in harmony with one another. He also said we should be sympathetic, compassionate and humble. Not to pay evil with evil or even insult with insult, but with blessings instead because TO THIS (higher life), we have been called.
It must be evident therefore, everywhere we go, that we are the sons and daughters of the Most High God. The way we speak, walk, love, forgive and live peacefully with all men says a lot about the Jesus who lives in us.
If your life reflects something different from the life of Christ, check your source. Talk to God and be regenerated through His Word. For all who are born in Him are not only to look like Him but also live like He did. Begin to pray now. Ask that the life of Christ rejuvenates you unto righteousness and good works.
Remember we are to let our lights shine before others, that they may see our good deeds and glorify our Father in heaven (Mat 5: 16). To this we were called. Why is there no difference between us and the world lately?
