Topic: Think Right!
Text: Matthew 9: 4
4 Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts? Amen
One day, Jesus stepped into a boat, crossed over and came to His own town. Some men brought to Him a paralyzed man, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the man, “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.”
At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, “This fellow is blaspheming!” Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts?
What a question to be asked by our Saviour; is it a rhetorical question to make us aware that He knows we entertain evil thoughts in our hearts or is it a question He really needs us to answer? Almost to say He’s really “desperate” to know what really makes us prefer to entertain evil thoughts instead of good?
Either way, one thing is very clear Beloved, THE LORD KNOWS OUR THOUGHTS! YES, EVERY ONE OF IT- HE KNOWS.
He knows your good intentions for your friends and loved ones. How you seek to bless them so much when the Lord settles you. He also knows every evil you have ever conceived. The revenge, robbery, lie and rape you so badly want to execute.
Sin is not just the act of disobedience, it is also the plan and strategy that lead to the said action. And all that, begins with the mind. This simply means that sin is already committed the moment evil thoughts are entertained. Even if no one else knows what you are thinking.
So then, even when we feel justified before men because our evil thoughts are not visible to man, we should never forget that they are not hidden from God. He sees right through the veil, beyond the pretence and rewards also, the very thoughts and perceptions that precede all our actions.
Therefore “… brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things” (Phil 4: 8).
Begin to pray now. Ask for grace to feed your mind with the word of God that your thoughts may be pure. Also, always remember that our lives are transformed whenever we renew our minds. No one is ever different from what they think about. YOU ARE YOUR THOUGHTS.
