Help The Weak But Watch Yourself

Today Devotion
Topic: Help The Weak But Watch Yourself (SELF ASSESSMENT 63)

Called out of darkness into the fold of Christ, some of us privately  struggle with sin and that must be the concern of all. The question however is: how can we help each other perfect this walk of faith till Christ appears to take us with Him to Glory? What are the practical steps to take in reaching out to a brother/ sister caught in sin, such that we will not be guilty of condemning the individual instead of the sin? Let us zoom straight into our weekly bible study for answers. Don’t hesitate to share the revelations the Holy Spirit gives you with us.

TEXT: Galatians 6:1- 4

1 Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. 2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

3 If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves. 4 Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else, Amen.

Questions:
i. What does it mean to say “someone is caught in sin”?

ii. If Paul says “you who live by the Spirit”, who are those the Apostle is referring to?

iii. Paul says those who live by the Spirit should gently restore those who are caught in sin. What does he mean by that and how can we achieve that?

v. He also warns that in restoring those who are caught in sin, those who live by the Spirit should watch themselves lest they be tempted too. What does it mean to “watch yourself”? Explain with practical examples.

iv. Read vrs 3 carefully. What can we say about those who think they are living by the Spirit because they have not been caught yet, and those with skeletons in their cupboards who go about justifying themselves as having the mandate from God to condemn others caught in sin. Who are they deceiving?

v. To avoid being caught up in the question (vi) situation, what is the best thing for each of us to do. READ vrs 4 again and apply to practical life.
