Topic: Covering Up
Text: Psalm 32: 3

When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. Amen

Sin is a universal problem of the world. Man after his fall in the Garden of Eden has become prone to sin. King David expresses in Psalm 51:5 that man is sinful right from birth.

This helpless state of man compelled our Lord Jesus to shed innocent blood for our redemption. He is God’s solution to sin; the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. He became flesh and was tempted in every way yet was found to be without sin. Now, He is seated at the right hand of God as our High Priest, making intercessions and atonements for our sins.

Why then do we try to hide our sins from all, including God? Especially when His Word assures that He is faithful and just to forgive us when we confess, and cleanse from all unrighteousness?

Many times we cover up our sins by…
1. Keeping silent on them (instead of repenting & confessing to God)
2. Keeping others silent through absolute denial & threats.
3. Counter-factual thinking; trying to justify in our minds the good reason for engaging in an illicit act.

King David did all the above and yet his bones wasted away. After his unsuccessful attempt to cover up his sins, the King now teaches us how to deal with sin;

a. Acknowledge that you have sinned against God
b. Confess your sins to Him
c. Believe you are forgiven
d. Purpose not to do that again

Don’t try to cover those sins up, it does you no good. It will corrode your bones. Begin to speak to God right now! Confess every sin and ask for Mercy. After all, “Blessed is the man whose sins the Lord does not count against him.” (Psalm 32:1)
