Topic: He Knows Too Well Our Hearts
Text: John 6: 70
Then Jesus replied, “Have I not chosen you, the Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil!”. Amen
The over 5,000 men that had been fed by the Lord Jesus, woke up the next day only to realise neither Jesus nor His disciples could be found. They moved to the other side of the lake in search of them. There, Jesus rebuked them for following Him only because of the food they ate previously and taught “… unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you.”( John 6: 53)
On hearing this many of His disciples said “this is hard teaching, who can accept it?” They deserted him and no longer followed Him (John 6: 60,66).
Jesus was then forced to ask the twelve whether they will also abandon Him like the others did. And Peter, being leader of them all, answered that they rather choose to stay, because Jesus was the ONE with words of eternal life.
At this divine confession, Jesus gave a shocking revelation: ” HAVE I NOT CHOSEN YOU,THE TWELVE? YET ONE OF YOU IS A DEVIL.”
You see, just like Peter, many of us profess to be followers of Christ, how sincere are we about that?
Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray Him” (verse 64b), yet He did not mistreat or disconnect from them, rather He continued to teach hoping that His words will turn their evil hearts back to God.
The stubborn hearted who could not stand His “truth teachings” abandoned Him to their old way of life. HOWEVER, WHEN THE 11 DECIDED TO REMAIN WITH THE LORD, JUDAS STAYED TOO. His actions for the Lord, his heart for the devil.
Thankfully, the Lord Jesus knew all along that Judas was not of Him. His love for money was stronger than his quest for salvation (and some of us are like that). Jesus also knew that Judas was a thief and stole from their coffers (John 12: 6), he would later betray his Master with a kiss just for MONEY.
Beloved, there is no use pretending. Jesus knows our hearts too well. He knows whether we are His or of the devil. We may succeed in deceiving our pastors, parents and leaders, but with Jesus? We can’t.
He knows our truest motives for following Him. He knows if our walk with Him is a “cover-up” or for real.
He has not exposed our hypocrisy yet because He’s hoping HIS WORDS OF ETERNAL LIFE will minister repentance in our hearts today.
There is no communion between light and darkness, Jesus calls you to total repentance today. Don’t let His suffering on Calvary be in vain. Begin to pray!
