Monday Morning Fever

Today’s Devotion
Topic: Monday Morning Fever.
Text: 2 Thessalonians 2: 16-17.

16 May our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who loved us and by His grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, 17 encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word. Amen.

It has been said by many, and maybe it is true; there is a general sickness called ‘Monday Morning Fever’ that Science has not yet researched into. It is not the kind of fever that pills or injections can handle. No! Not at all. It is not the kind of fever that natural therapy or home remedy can help with too. This is basically because its symptoms recur every Monday dawn (or sometimes from the Sunday night) and easily disappear by noon that same day.

The ‘Monday Morning fever’ syndrome can be explained as the confrontation with the reality that the weekend is over and a whole new working week begins today. The thought of heavy traffic to deal with, targets to achieve, difficult employers or lazy employees to manage, examinations so ill- prepared for, slower business in recent times, impossible lecturers etc; immediately make us develop this ‘fever’.

Waking up from bed is the most difficult part but that is not all. Putting one’s self together for the day is equally hard because you may be tired. Not only from the long weekend with activities but from having to deal with this early morning rush hour for years and still running. All the above only result in a fever; ‘Monday fever’.

Though Science has not yet discovered a remedy for this ‘disease’, God has. There are several “pills” (quotations) in His Word that cure this ‘Monday fever’ permanently.

Apostle Paul sets the pace in 2 Thessalonians 3: 10- 13. He said “For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: ‘The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat. We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies. Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat. And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good.'”

His last sentence in the scripture above (that is, “and as for you, brothers and sisters, never get tired of doing what is good”), goes to encourage those of us who are not idle but hardworking, except with ‘Monday Morning Fevers’ to deal with. He says to us this morning not to get tired about doing what is good. Work is good actually. It helps to define and shape our lives. It also earns us a living.

That is why Ecclesiastes 9: 10 encourages that “whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.”

Another “pill” to boost your immune system this morning is Colossians 3: 23- 24. It says “whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”

Rise up therefore and begin to pray. See this day as a day the Lord has made specifically for you; with blessings and opportunities to lift you up where you belong. Pray and destroy any plan of the enemy for your sake; bless the day and bless all who are connected to you as well.

Now, may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who loved us and by His grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word in Jesus name. A wonderful day awaits your claim. Arise and shine therefore, for the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. KICK THE FEVER OUT, GIVE TODAY YOUR BEST!
